Dazed Magazine
The
1991 founded Dazed & Confused magazine is a bi-monthly British style
magazine that covers music, fashion, film, art and literature. Dazed is the
most influential independent fashion and culture title in the world. The
magazine’s target audience is for fans who appreciate the arts and is generally
a younger generation, both male and female. Accordingly, Dazed does not just feature one particular area of art, it focuses ideas on fashion, photography, social life, music and film etc. This audience constantly seeks out
new culturally diverse material. They tend to be in their early twenties to
early thirties. Dazed is produced by a small private company called Waddell Ltd. and there biggest published magazine is Dazed. They have also developed an online version of the magazine called Dazed Digital which is a lot more accessible for their audience.
Dazed magazines main artist or celebrity who feature in that particular issue usually take up most of the front cover, being the "star image". It is also usually a head shot style photo taken of the artist/celebrity/model for the front cover, with them making direct eye contact with the camera providing the audience with a direct mode of address. This is usually quite common with magazines, possibly creating the image of being bold. Usually the covers consist of high key lighting enhancing the "star" of the magazine front cover and can also be used to highlight the contrast of colours. The masthead contains big bold white lettering spelling out the company name which can be seen as a house-style of the magazine and be what an audience may be able to identify Dazed from other companies with. Having said this, I have seen that there are other issues which use different colours used for the masthead/magazine name but the same font style is used. The decisions to change the mast head colour could be a editorial decision as it may be to match the colour scheme of the magazine or even to create a contrasting statement.
